Chapter Director Thoughts
We have the POWER!!!!. Or when we flip a light switch to the up position, a light comes on. Its really cool. At
the Brozek’s we were out 5 days. We could still be hit with rolling black outs. So if part of the newsletter is missing,
that’s what happened. Our hats off to our power company ( NCPPD) and all of the others that came and helped. We live some 7 miles from Creighton and in that distance there were around 100 poles snapped off. Looks like a war zone. Any way that is why the newsletter is late. No power, no computer. Back to more important stuff. What a
great Christmas party we had over at the Randolph Country Club. The Windsor loin was great. Can’t beat pork at
Christmas time. The card game, present shuffle by Barbara VanBrocklin was great fun. Thanks again Barb. Most of
us guys were pretty jealous of Chucks new pet ROCK. A great BIG huge THANK YOU to Jerry & Deb Wiese for being our hosts and lining up the meal and every thing else they did for us at the Country club in Randolph. Jerry & Deb e-mailed us and wanted to thank everyone for coming to the Christmas party. They truly enjoyed being our
hosts. They also wanted to thank all the guys for being so well behaved, no food fights as normally happens.

Don’t Forget Our Next Get-together
January 17, 2007- 7:00pm Sharp!!
Mary’s Steakhouse & Lounge
Hwy. 20, Plainview Nebraska
Lance & Diane Brozek are our hosts.
Chapter News
Our condolences go out to Gary & Paulette Gross on the passing of Gary’s Sister in law. Gary &
Paulette went out to California for the Funeral. Paulette e-mailed to say Merry Christmas and
that on the way home from the funeral they got stranded in the Denver airport on the
Wednesday before Christmas. They were still there on Friday when their Pastors son passed
through on his way home and gave Gross’s a ride to Lincoln to get their car. Bet they were glad
to get home.
Dallas’s Second Chance Corner
Dallas has volunteered to take the Second Chance tickets and money. We will have monthly
updates in the newsletter, on how much money and tickets. This is a great program. We need to
thank Chapter S over in Iowa as we stole the program from them. And a big thanks to Dallas for
helping out. Maybe we should hold our thanks till Dallas shows up at the Christmas party with our
money.

REGION ‘E’
America’s Heartland

NEBRASKA CHAPTER ‘C’

From your Chapter Director

Greetings fellow Gold Wingers. Happy New Year to all. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I know I sure did as I did get to make the trip to Texas to see my youngest daughter, her wonderful husband and their
almost 3 year old. They are expecting their next “boy” on May 12th. They say that will be their last so I better enjoy them as all my children are “done” having anymore grandchildren for me. I did get to see all of my children
and grandchildren over the holidays so life is indeed Great. On a more business note, we had a GREAT year here @ chapter “c” Our monthly get togethers had greater attendance than any other year.I think we averaged 23 per get together
..Last year it was 21 and change, so we are doing great. We saw many new faces this last year and we welcome them.We hope 2007 will be just as much fun so you will want to attend our get togethers.I am now working the midnite to 8 in the morning shift, so I do plan on going to the supper runs. We will talk about them and many other stuff @ our January get together which will be on January 21st in Columbus @ the Pizza hut @ 1:00 p.m. hosted by Dave and Karen Peters. Please join us if you can. We will announce the winner of the poker hand then.As you know, the winner gets their years subscription to GWRRA paid by the chapter. We don’t know if the BEST or the WORST hand will win. I will flip a coin @ the get together and we will know if the best or the worst will be the winner. Speaking of winners, our Christmas get together was a huge sucess thanks to all of you and in a very
large part because of our assistant director, Tim Kruger, who hosted it at his place of business, which is the bowling alley in Newman Grove. Thank you Tim and to your staff. You did a great job. I really don’t know much of anything else so I will sign off and hope to see all of you @ the pizza Hut in columbus on the 21st of January. Till then, remember we ARE friends for fun, safety and knowledge..later..Larry

Chapter Educator

Bob Lake needs to know ASAP anyone and everyone wishing to attend the Norfolk education class on the 20th and 21st. This is the biggest GWRRA motorcycle training class ever to hit Nebraska, you only find these educational
opportunities ar Regional events or Wing Ding, so thank you Bob for getting this class together.
One of the classes is on CPR/First Aid. How would you feel if you were witnessing a friend, or a loved one who was choking on something and you helplessly stood their and watched them die because you did not know what
to do or how to do it? Do you know how far to tilt the head back to be able to see down the throat for an obstruction and then know how to dislodge it? Do you know how hard to blow when doing mouth to mouth resecitation and how often? Do you know how hard to push on someone’s chest when doing
heart CPR without breaking a rib? These are only a few things that will be taught in the CPR/First Aid class.
Another class being offered is a Rider Education Seminar. My understandingof this class is it is going to cover everything from the beginning of the ride to the end, starting with what type of clothing that will keep us safe to checking the bike before we ride, how to recognize being to hot to being to cold and what could happen if we continued to ride, how to group ride, when to stop and rest, how fast to ride and where all of the Dairy Queen’s are located. These are only a few of the things that you will learn in the Rider Education Seminar. The last class will be on Leadership Training. No-one and I mean no-one can attend a leadership seminar and not come away
from it with at least one or two or more very helpful hints or ideas that you can use in your family, your work environment, or with a group of motorcycle friends. Do you know how to start a conversation with a stranger? Do you know how to work a room? Do you know how to overcome negative conversations? Do you know
what to do if you become an officer in GWRRA? These are only a few of the items that will be covered in the Leadership Training Seminar. Please call Bob Lake at (402) 597-1033,or Dave Peters at (402) 362-5005.
One thing to remember the faster you go the longer it takes to stop.
Dave and Karen Peters

GET TOGETHERS
Jan. 21st, Pizza Hut in Columbus at 1:00 PM.
hosted by Dave and Karen Peters

Feb. 18, 2007 at Godfather’s Pizza in Columbus at 1:00 p.m.
It will be a pizza & pasta buffet with salad bar and drink for $5.75.
We will have a private party room.
hosted by Dick and Mary Lou Stamm

March, Don and Phyllis Blessen

Upcoming Events
January 20-21, training/safety weekend Norfolk NE,N/E College

March 3rd, Nebraska District March Maddness, 9:00am to ?
January 2007 Newsletter
Chapter B meets the second Sunday of each month

Chapter Directors: Bill and Nancy James Chapter Treasurer: Sonya Crowl
Activity Director/Advisor: Willard Crowl Chapter Educators: Bob and Charlotte Lake

Director Ramblings:

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you all had a great Christmas and are ready for a great new year. This year is starting great with training at Norfolk in January and then March Madness at Lincoln in early March. Our December gather was lots of fun even if we had to move it across the street to the Subway. D&K was just packed. Seems like December flew by with gatherings, travel and Christmas cheer. Our gathering this month will be on New Years day at Ameristar Casino buffet. Hope you can make it.

If you do get a ride in remember: RIDE SAFE, HAVE FUN!
50/50 Winners
Larry Hladik, Cal & Sandy Lytle

Activities and Events: Meet at the gathering locations during the winter
1 January 2007 New Years Brunch – 10 AM–Ameristar Casino Buffet
Hope to see many of you there!

16 January La Mesa in Papillion across from Target – 6 PM [Tara Plaza]
84th Street and second block north of Cornhusker on East side

20-21 January District Combined Training – Norfolk, NE

3 March Nebraska District March Madness – Lincoln, NE

As always, adhoc telephone rides can be scheduled as weather allows. If you want to be part of the telephone list send an email to Bill and Nancy James, nbjames@netscape.com

Motorcycle Controls

Why is the throttle positioned where it is? Why can’t it be on the left handlebar if I’m left handed? Why is the neutral light always green? Why is the high beam indicator light blue? Why is the gearshift lever located on the left side of the motorcycle and the rear brake on the right side? Why indeed?

The answer to these questions and many more like them is for the purpose of standardization. If the controls are located in standardized locations and operate in the same manner, then you as the rider could hop off of your Gold Wing at the DQ and jump on little Johnny’s HD Sportster and speed away with nary a concern. No flames please! So where do we find out why? That’s’ an easy question, Grasshopper.

The last one, FMVSS 218, is the one most often quoted and the one most people have heard about because it discusses motorcycle helmet testing. This identifies what the “DOT” sticker really means. It does not dictate whether you must wear a helmet or not, just what it means to be DOT certified. Helmet regulations can be found in many places including the back of the Gold Book.

So if you are bored this winter and find yourself sitting at the computer surfing the web, go to your search engine (Google, Yahoo or one of the others) and search for Title 49 of the US CFR, Part 571 and read all about why your motorcycle has the controls it does and why they are placed so; or what type of testing your helmet is subjected to; not your personal helmet of course, since these are by their very nature destructive tests, but your make and model of helmet or anything else about motor vehicles

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. We wish everyone a Happy New Year. Well we need to start looking ahead to 2007 first we are looking to have a lot of fun in the New Year then we have the Training Weekend January 21 & 22 2007 in Norfolk Ne. hope everyone has made their reservations for it. The next event is March Maddness on March 3rd 2007 at the Cornhusker Super 8 in Lincoln Ne. We will have a cookie Contest anyone wishing to enter just bring two dozen cookies to be judged. We have an Easter Bonnet Contest. The rules are simple it has to be made from a helmet of some type such as a bicycle or a motorcycle helmet we would suggest that it is an old helmet. Don’t forget the deadline for the Motel reservations for March Maddness is February 24 2007 and remember to mention GWRRA. Sure hope to see you all there. Also please get this out to all who might be coming about our contest and the rules. Don’t forget we need door prizes & snacks for March Maddness. If you have any ideas for some fun games let us know? Our District Rally is June 28-29 & 30 2007 In Norfolk Ne. A flyer will be out the end of January. Thank You for all you have done this Year for GWRRA God bless Cal & Sandi Ne DD
